Hailing from the esteemed Thapar lineage, Gautam Thapar’s family heritage in business was deeply rooted. His grandfather, Karam Chand Thapar, laid the cornerstone of their entrepreneurial legacy in Kolkata. However, it was Gautam’s father, Brij Mohan Thapar, who, despite being offered the reins of the family enterprise, deferred to his younger brother, Lalit Mohan Thapar, citing personal reasons.

Gautam Thapar’s educational odyssey commenced at The Doon School, followed by an undergraduate stint at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University.
