In a realm where extraordinary talent emerges unexpectedly, two young siblings from Chennai, India, have risen to prominence as the nation’s youngest app developers and entrepreneurs. Shravan and Sanjay Kumaran, aged just 6th and 8th graders at the onset of their journey, captured attention by becoming India’s youngest co-founders and CEOs, earning prestigious accolades like the “30 Under 30” list.
The Genesis of GoDimensions
In 2011, at ages 8 and 10, the Kumaran brothers embarked on their remarkable odyssey by founding GoDimensions. Nestled in Chennai, the company’s headquarters served as a hub of innovation and youthful vigour. With Sanjay leading as the CEO and Shravan assuming the role of President, they ventured into uncharted entrepreneurial waters.
Their father, Kumaran Surendran, was the driving force behind their journey, nurturing a passion for programming in his young sons. Introduced to computers at an early age, both boys displayed a precocious interest, in crafting PowerPoint presentations as early as four years old. Recognising their potential, their father initiated them into the world of programming at a remarkably tender age.
The Birth of Apps
Their foray into app development commenced with “Catch Me Cop,” a gaming app inspired by India’s popular childhood game, ‘chor-police.’ However, this was merely the tip of the iceberg. The Kumaran brothers delved into creating a diverse array of apps, spanning educational tools like “Alphabet Board” and “Colour Palette,” an emergency service app named “Emergency Booth,” a prayer app, and gaming sensations such as “Superhero” and “Car Racing.” In total, they churned out 150 test apps.
What set their journey apart was their knack for producing innovative apps tailored for a global audience. Garnering downloads and acclaim across 50 countries, their apps left an indelible mark.
A Global Pursuit of Knowledge
Following their stellar achievements in India, the Kumaran brothers set their sights on higher education in the United States. Enrolling in computer science programs at Texas A&M University, Shravan and Sanjay embarked on the next chapter of their journey. Presently, Shravan serves as a Software Developer at Salesforce in San Francisco, while Sanjay fulfils the role of Software Engineer Intern at Microsoft.
