Early Life and Education

Raised by Baliram Pandey and Yashoda Pandey, Ravish Kumar’s upbringing in Jitwarpur laid the foundation for his remarkable journey. After completing his high school education at Loyola High School in Patna, he pursued higher studies in Delhi. Graduating from Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi, Kumar furthered his education at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, earning a post-graduate diploma in Hindi Journalism.

Career at NDTV India

Ravish Kumar’s illustrious career at NDTV India spanned nearly three decades, during which he rose to Senior Director. Hosting flagship programs like Prime Time, Hum Log, Ravish Ki Report, and Des Ki Baat, Kumar set benchmarks in Indian television journalism. Despite facing death threats for his fearless pursuit of truth, he remained unwavering in his commitment to ethical reporting.

Transition to Digital Journalism

In a significant career move, Kumar resigned from NDTV in November 2022, coinciding with a shift in his career trajectory. Embracing digital journalism, he launched his own news channel on YouTube, reaffirming his dedication to delivering unfiltered news and analysis directly to the public.

Ravish Kumar’s contributions to journalism have been lauded with numerous prestigious awards. His accolades include two Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards, the Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Gauri Lankesh Award for Journalism, and the Kuldip Nayar Journalism Award. In 2023, he received the Honorary Title for Freedom of Expression from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Brussels, Belgium, recognising his critical and independent journalism in India.

Beyond journalism, Ravish Kumar finds fulfillment in his family life, married to Nayana Dasgupta, a history professor. They are blessed with two daughters. Kumar’s literary contributions include several acclaimed books, such as The Free Voice, Bolna Hi Hai, Ishq Mein Shahar Hona, Dekhate Rahiye, Ravishpanti, and A City Happens In Love.
